White Lies // NME Big Gig // O2 London
I was assigned to shoot the DPS poster for the Big gig, so I was at the very back of the Arena, I thought White Lies were the best of the evening. I love The Cure, but dang, they were so Dull. Pretty much the same tempo all night... hardly any of the greatest hits came out.
Check out the magazine next week for pics from the Awards and the Big Gig.

Sleep
On the N343 after rather a late evening in Soho.
"That daily the night falls; that over stresses and torments, cares and sorrows the blessing of sleep unfolds, stilling and quenching them; that every anew this draught of refreshment and lethe is offered to our parching lips, ever after the battle this mildness laves our shaking limbs, that from it, purified from sweat and dust and blood, strengthened, renewed, rejuvenated, almost innocent once more, almost with pristine courage and zeal we may go forth again—these I hold to be the benignest, the most moving of all the great facts of life."

Just a Reminder
Had to go for a long walk today - took the camera to try and push it at the low light end. All photos are taken hand held, no tripod and most of it has very little PP, maybe a little on the white balance end. Shot with a Canon 5D Mark II.
PS: Sunhee, I wish the two of us could do this together (!)

Stop London: it is snowing
"A traffic light under a blanket of snow in Trafalgar Square. London, 2nd February 2009"
When we got home, yesterday afternoon, the blinds were closed and we did not open them as long as I read someone twittering that there was quite some snow on the streets of London. So, curiously, I went to the window and I found a white surprise. During the evening the blanket of snow grew thicker and thicker.
During these years I have changed a lot and my reaction to snow in the cities is one of those changes. Back in Italy a snowy day would have been an issue, trouble with the car, trouble because you get wet and then the snow melts... what a jerk I was! Right now it is snow, just snow. You can enjoy the city with a white mantle, people are usually happier (today everybody was smiling) and you can return a child for some minutes.
Is it snowing? Enjoy!
When we woke up this morning, outside our windows the snow was almost four or five inches thick and the world was incredibly silent, with very few cars running around and with all the city noises softened by the snow. I did not get upset knowing that all the buses were suspended or that the tube was overcrowded. I did not even get bother by the fact that once in the office I received an SMS telling me that I could have worked from home. I took my new camera and I walked for some time outside (I was still early for work) and I played around with images.
For a day London has been slow, silent, with an incredible number of people smiling and taking photos. Well, let it be, let London stop for some time and let the Londoners smile and play.
All work and no play make Jack a dull boy!
Oh the weather outside is frightful,
But the fire is so delightful,
And since we've no place to go,
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

32 366 - Chinese New Year in London
Today I went alone, kids sick, to the Chinese New Year festival in London. It was bloody freezing and I have no idea how this little boy could hold that stick given the windchill - perhaps it was frozen?
I started in Trafalgar Square where I took this and then fought my way up to China Town. I have never seen London so so busy. And taking photos was a nightmare. The whole of Newport Place was rammed with people. You couldn't move. It took me ages to find the lion dances but eventually I made it through the crowds and waited at his next port of call. Cunning. except it was so busy that i hardly managed any decent shots. I take my hat off to people who do this kind of photography it for a living.
I bought Violet one of these dragon things, a furry puppet one and some firecrackers.
